HMRC warning regarding VAT484 form
HMRC warned that Form VAT484, designed to help businesses change their VAT registration details, has been used in fraudulent attempts to gain access to businesses’ VAT repayments. HMRC is taking action to address this issue, including writing to businesses to confirm changes made to their details since January 2024.
We want to urge all VAT-registered businesses to stay vigilant and act now to ensure that you haven’t been affected. This includes checking that your business bank details are correct and that any expected repayments have been received.
How to update your details
Businesses can review and update their VAT details online or using VAT 484 paper form. Those details include:
- Contact information;
- Return dates;
- Bank details.
You will need to log into your business tax account, select ‘Your VAT account’, and then ‘Manage your VAT’. Under ‘Your business details’ you will see an option to edit your information.
If you’re unable to change your details online, you can use VAT484 form to do so, however, it will take longer to process than changing your details online.
More information on how to update your VAT details can be found on the official government website.
