Byway, an environmentally-friendly travel tech start-up, has announced £1.1m of funding from an Innovate UK SMART grant, Founders Factory, and angel investors in July 2021.

Byway is building a new type of holiday packages focused on slow journeys using environmentally-friendly ways of travel such as boat, train, bus, bike, or on foot. They provide a personal touch to the journey’s planning delivering careful support both through their team and their innovative tech.

Byway’s mission includes bringing sustainable leisure travel to the mainstream, building a vibrant travel ecosystem away from tourist hotspots, and boosting local economies.

Despite the whole travel sector being shook by the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on travels, Byway has been relentlessly growing. Part of the reason was that people couldn’t travel internationally and were looking for different ways to plan their holidays. But at the core of Byway’s vision is customers’ choice to keep the carbon footprint to a minimum and their preference for more personalized holidays.

The recent funding will help to accelerate their future growth and expansion on groundbreaking flight-free dynamic packaging as well as marketing, and customers experience teams.

Since its launch in 2020, more than 7,500 trips have been built with Byway’s dynamic trip builder.

This in-house technology allows flight-free travel planning to be offered at scale in a way that’s not been possible before and is backed up by the customer’s choice of a slower and more scenic way of travel.

Finerva is proud to support Byway as a Core Accounting client, and commends this key milestone looking forward to the next steps in their journey.
