HMRC have recently launched a One to Many letter campaign regarding claims for Research & Development Tax Relief (R&D Tax Credits). These letters intend to raise taxpayers’ awareness of fraudulent R&D claims.

The letters have been sent at the end of January to 2,024 companies’ directors who have made R&D claims in the past. The letters encourage directors to review their previous claims using a checklist to make sure that the information provided in the past about their claims is complete and correct.

If an error occurs, HMRC may need to open enquiries and possibly reject claims. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that your claims follow gov.uk rules.

In addition, several other changes are coming into place, starting 1 April 2023. As a result, many businesses will have to improve their record-keeping for R&D projects that will support their future claims.

More about upcoming changes can be found on our previous blog. Regarding other changes that are currently being reviewed, please visit the government website.
